Umar Farhat, a young Urdu poet from the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir has been conferred with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2021. The award has been conferred on him for his collection of Urdu Poetry called ‘Zameen Zaad’.
Besides being a poet, Farhat is editor of Tafheem, an Urdu language literary journal. He was informed by the officials of Sahitya Akademi about his book being approved for the award. The award includes a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and Rs 50, 000 cash, which will be presented to him at an official function soon.
Rajouri is a town in Rajouri district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located about 155 kilometres (96 mi) from Srinagar and 150 km (93 mi) from Jammu city on the Poonch Highway.
Himalaya education mission society Rajouri, while congratulating Farhat for this achievement, says such coveted awards will inspire the young poets of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is a big achievement that will inspire the new and young generation poets in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”, says Farooq Ahmad Muztar, Chairman Himalaya education mission society Rajouri.
The Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2021 were awarded for 22 Indian languages. The winners include Abhijit Bora (Assamese), Gourob Chakraborty (Bengali), Gautom Daimary (Bodo), Arun Akash Dev (Dogri), Drashti Soni (Gujarati), Himanshu Vajpai (Hindi), L.Lakshmi Narayan Swamy (Kannada), Razi Tahir Bhagat (Kashmiri), Sharddha Garad (Konkani), Amit Mishra (Maithili), Mobin Mohan (Malayalam), Lenin Khmancha (Manipuri), Pranav Sakhadeo (Marathi), Mahesh Dahal (Nepali), Debabrata Das (Odia), Veerdavinder Singh (Punjabi), Swetapadma Satapathy (Sanskrit), Kuna Hansdah (Santali), Rakesh Shewani (Sindhi), Thagulla Gopal (Telugu), and Umar Farhat (Urdu). While the award in Tamil will be declared later, there was no award given in Rajasthani language this year.
