India Kickstarts Vaccination for 15-18 Age Group Amid Surge in Covid19 Cases

India on Monday kickstarts vaccination for teens in the 15 to 18 age group amid a surge of Covid cases in multiple cities. Over 8 lakh teens have registered in the government’s CoWin portal.

The Union Health Ministry has said only Covaxin will be administered to teens and additional doses of the vaccine will be sent to all states and Union Territories.

On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that vaccination for the 15-18-year age group will begin from January 3.

According to the data released by the India’s Health Ministry, 33,750 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours taking Daily positivity rate to 3.84% and Weekly Positivity Rate to 1.68%.

India’s Active caseload currently stands at 1,45,582. Active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.42%.

Recovery Rate is currently at 98.20%.

So far, 145.68 cr vaccine doses have been administered under Nationwide Vaccination Drive in India.
