Indian Army teams on standby
The Indian Army said on Monday it has put 180 teams and nine engineer task forces on standby to face any contingency as Cyclone Tauktae is likely to hit the Gujarat coast on Monday evening, PTI reports.
“With the impending landfall of the extremely severe cyclonic storm forecast in coastal areas of Gujarat, Indian Army units and formations have prepared themselves with substantial teams along with elements of communication and engineer task forces to provide relief and all kinds of assistance,” an Army statement read.
Six die in Konkan region of Maharashtra
Six persons were killed in Maharashtra’s Konkan region in separate incidents related to the severe cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae’ while three sailors remained missing after two boats sank in the sea, a statement and officials said on Monday.
Mumbai airport closed for operations till 8 pm
The city’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has extended the suspension of all air services to 8 pm from 6 pm announced earlier due to the cyclone ‘Tauktae’.
Over 1.5 lakh evacuated in Gujarat
With the tropical cyclone Tauktae set to cross the Gujarat coast and make a landfall as an “extremely severe cyclonic storm” by Monday night, the state government has shifted over 1.5 lakh people to safer places and mobilised disaster response teams.
Maharashtra farmers affected
Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik on Monday said farmers in the state’s Konkan region had suffered losses due to rains brought about by cyclone Tauktae.
Modi Calls CMs to take stock of the situation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has contacted chief ministers of Gujarat and Goa and the lieutenant governor of Daman and Diu to discuss preparation and response to cyclone Tauktae, reports ANI.
