5 Army Personnel Including An Officer Killed In Encounter In Jammu and Kashmir

Five army personnel including an army officer were killed in action during an encounter between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday, officials said.

Indian Express quoting Army spokesman Lt Colonel Devender Anand said the encounter is still underway.

According to the reports, encounter broke out when army launched an anti-insurgency operation in a village close to Dera Ki Gali in the early hours following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Reports added that the hiding terrorists fired on the search parties resulting in a fierce gunfight and critical injuries to a Junior Commissioned Officer or JCO and four other soldiers. They died from their injuries.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to plug all escape routes.
