Iran conducted attacks on purported militant bases in Pakistan, prompting Islamabad to denounce the strikes as “unprovoked” and report the tragic death of two children. The incident adds another layer of complexity to the regional dynamics, already strained by geopolitical tensions and ongoing conflicts.
According to Iran’s state-aligned Tasnim news agency, the strikes were aimed at eliminating strongholds of the militant group Jaish al-Adl (referred to as Jaish al-Dhulm in Iran) adding that Precision missile and drone strikes targeted the Koh-e-Sabz area in Pakistan’s southwest Balochistan province.
The Iranian action comes on the heels of missile launches in northern Iraq and Syria, escalating hostilities in the Middle East. The broader context includes the Israel-Gaza conflict, heightening the risk of a more extensive regional conflict.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry swiftly condemned the airstrike, characterizing it as an “unprovoked violation” of its airspace within Pakistani territory. The ministry expressed deep sorrow over the loss of two innocent children and issued a stern warning to Iran about the potential consequences of its actions.
“Pakistan strongly condemns the unprovoked violation of its airspace by Iran and the strike inside Pakistani territory which resulted in the death of two innocent children while injuring three girls. This violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty is completely unacceptable and can have serious consequences” reads the statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreing Office.
The ministry underscored the alarming nature of the act, emphasizing that it occurred despite the presence of several communication channels between Pakistan and Iran.
“Pakistan’s strong protest has already been lodged with the concerned senior official in the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran. Additionally, the Iranian Charge d’affaires has been called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey our strongest condemnation of this blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and that the responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran,” the statement added.
As tensions escalate in the region, this incident adds another layer of complexity to the already delicate geopolitical landscape.
