Ecuador’s Top Presidential Candidate Villavicencio Assassinated

Ecuadorean presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio has been shot dead at a political rally in Quito Wednesday night, media reported. He was 59.

Ecuadorean incumbent President Guillermo Lasso extended solidarity and condolences to Villavicencio’s family members and assured the accused would not be spared.


Fernando Villavicencio was shot several times as he left the rally at a high school in Quito, General Manuel Iniguez, a deputy commander of the Ecuadorean national police said. He was taken to a nearby clinic, where he was pronounced dead.
