Italy on Sunday wins the UEFA Euro 2020 by beating England in the Finals at the Wembley Stadium in London ending years of trophy drought.
The European Championship final England and Italy against each other. England took the lead with a Luke Shaw strike in the 2nd minute, the quickest ever goal in a Euro final. Leonardo Bonucci scored the equalizer for Italy in the 67th minute. The score remained 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes as well as after Extra-Time. Italy won 3-2 on penalties.
The win has ended Italy’s few years of trophy drought. England, on the other hand, were in uncharted territory. They have not even reached a final since 1966. Italy, however, has already reached the final twice in recent years — in 2000 and 2012 — whereas England hasn’t got close until now.
Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Golden Boot
Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo claimed his first European Championship Golden Boot. Ronaldo scored five goals in the competition – the same as the Czech Republic forward Patrik Schick – and won via the tie-breaker of assists.
Ronaldo became the leading goal-scorer in the history of Euros during the tournament, with his 14th strike. Meanwhile, with 109 goals, he had equaled Iran striker Ali Daei as the top scorer in international football as well.
