Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan passed away on Wednesday at the age of 96. He had recently tested positive for Covid-19. Family sources said he breathed his last at Delhi’s Apollo Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on April 12 due to a coronavirus infection.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sadness over the death of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and said he will be remembered for his insightful knowledge on matters of theology and spirituality.

Born In Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh in 1925, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan studied at a traditional Islamic seminary, the Madrasatul Islahi, in Sarai Mir, near Azamgarh till 1938 to receive religious education. He was one of the first Muslim scholars to urge the community to give up the claim over the disputed Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya.
Several religious, Peace, and Political leaders have condoled the demise of Maulana across the world and have applauded his work in the promotion of peace and scientific interpretation of Islam.
While paying tribute to the departed religious leader, the Himalayan Foundation based in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir said, “ Maulana’s timeless wisdom will keep enlightening the coming generations for ages together. We pray to Almighty to grant him the highest place in Jannah and solace to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss”
