India-Japan 2+2 On Sep 8; To Review Regional Security Challenges

India and Japan will hold their second 2+2 dialogue of the defence and foreign ministers in Tokyo on September 8, government sources told News Bridge on Wednesday.

“The meeting will discuss strategic cooperation in key areas such as joint exercises, defence manufacturing and world issues,” sources added.

The meeting, which will bring together defence minister Rajnath Singh and external affairs minister S Jaishankar with their Japanese counterparts Yasukazu Hamada and Yoshimasa Hayashi. The ministers will chalk out future cooperation in emerging technologies, defence collaboration in the form of joint exercises and defence manufacturing.

“One of the key discussion will be about the Chinese advancements in South China sea, East China sea and the Line of Actual Control. Both countries will review regional security challenges at that front”, sources added.

India currently has 2+2 meetings with only a handful of strategic partners, including the US, Russia, Australia and Japan.

Meanwhile according to the reports, PM Narendra Modi also intends to visit Japan to attend the National Funeral of Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on September 27. There is no official announcement about the visit yet by the Indian government.

Shinzo Abe was assassinated on July 08, while delivering a campaign speech at Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Country’s Nara prefecture.

According to the Japanese Newspaper The Yomiuri Shimbun, Abe’s funeral will be attended by over 6400 people from all over the world.
