In Japan For Shinzo Abe’s Funeral, PM Modi Meets Fumio Kishida

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida and conveyed his deepest condolences over the demise of former prime minister Shinzo Abe.

Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest serving Prime Minister was assassinated on July 8 in Nara Prefecture where the late leader was addressing an election rally.

PM Modi, who arrived in Tokyo to attend the state funeral of late leader held a bilateral meet with his Japanese counterpart ahead of the funeral ceremony.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs statement, PM Modi underlined the late Japanese leader’s contributions in “strengthening the bilateral partnership as well as his vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region”.

The two leaders had a productive exchange of views on further deepening bilateral relations. They also discussed a number of regional and global issues. The leaders renewed their commitment towards further strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, and in working together in the region and in various international groupings and institutions,” added the brief statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
