US Capitol Riot: Jan 6 Panel Recommends Criminal Prosecution Against Donald Trump

The Jan 6 congressional committee that investigated last year’s attack on the US Capitol has recommended criminal prosecution against the former President of United States Donald Trump.

The House panel on Monday unanimously urged the Justice Department to pursue Trump for inciting an insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiring to defraud the US government.

“The committee has developed significant evidence that president Trump intended to disrupt the peaceful transition of power under our Constitution,” Representative Jamie Raskin said as he outlined the panel’s findings.

This is the first time in the American history that Congress has recommended criminal persecution against a former President.
