India Probing Asia’s First Possible Monkeypox-Linked Death

Indian State has launched a probe over the death of 22-year-old Youth who had tested positive of Monkeypox in another country and died in South Indian State of Kerela on Saturday. This would be Asia’s first monkeypox death and the fourth one outside Africa.

According to the reports, the youth had landed in Kerala on July 22 from the United Arab Emirates, where he has tested positive of Monkeypox. The youth got admitted in local hospital on July 26 after developing fever.

“The man had been diagnosed with monkeypox while he was abroad, but his family had informed the hospital in Thrissur only on Saturday,” said Veena George, Kerala’s health minister.

“A high-level inquiry will be conducted into the death of a person with symptoms of monkeypox in Chavakkad Kuranjiyur. The result of the test conducted in a foreign country was positive. He sought treatment in Thrissur,” the minister added.
