Kashmir Meet | PM Urges All Parties To Participate In Delimitation Process; Statehood, Elections Later

After 22 months of political deadlock in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds an All-party meeting with the representatives of mainstream political parties from Jammu and Kashmir at his official residence in New Delhi.

The meeting called by the Prime Minister is seen to begin the political process in Jammu and Kashmir, which was reduced to two Union territories of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh on August 05, 2019, after the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

Sources told New Bridge, the talks will be held at Prime Minister Modi’s official residence, 7, Lok Kalyan Marg at 3 PM. Home Minister Amit Shah will also be present at the meeting.

Reports say, that though the government is clear that there is no going back on the removal of Article 370, while statehood can be discussed.

Reports added that the main agenda for the government will be seeking cooperation from the political parties on the delimitation exercise underway for the Assembly seats.

However, in Kashmir, the parties that make up the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) like the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC), will stick to their position of seeking the restoration of Article 370, and the immediate restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
