Covid19 | Delhi, UP Extend Lockdown Till May 17, Metro Suspended

Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Sunday extended the lockdown in the state till May 17.

In a video address, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while announcing the extension of lockdown till May 17 said that lockdown has helped the National Capital to reduce the cases and lower the positivity rate to some extent. The government has also announced the suspension of metro services till May 17.

“The positivity rate has gone down but still we can’t afford leniency. We need to extend to lockdown,” CM Kejriwal said.

Amid the rising coronavirus COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state on Sunday (May 9) also decided to extend lockdown till 7 AM on May 17.

India on Sunday registered 4,03,738 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of infections in the country to 2,22,96,414 since the pandemic broke out last year. The country’s toll climbed by 4,092 deaths to 2,42,362. India now has over 37 lakh active cases and 1,83,17,404 recoveries.
